Hello Dear All!
Bon courage donc pour cet exercice et THE FORCE IS WITH YOU, as usual!

I ) Translate into English :

Thanks a lot for the timing ! Indeed, I've got little time to spare on weekdays.
Have a wonderful week, with the divine scent of lily of the valley

I ) Translate into English :
Why did you return this letter without reading it ? You'll never know what your former friend wanted to tell you or what he wanted you to know.

Hardly had he pronounced this name when he realised that he should have never done it before his father...

He finds it very annoying having to wait in this very long queue to watch his so-long awaited film

The Pierces' neighbour stabbed his wife to death. Since then, the whole neighbourhood has been worrying and won't be reassured until he gets arrested.

Why say nothing ? I really wish he had spoken at the time and hadn't decided to file a complaint afterwards...

Thank you again !

Hello, dear Friends and hardworkers !

Thanks a lot for your faithful work even when you were on holiday, or extremely busy, or just feeling like being a little lazy in the sun in the deserted cities...

Well well... What shall I say about this exercise? It certainly didn't look difficult, but it was... with a mixture of tenses (I know the hated ones... ) and expressions to be used absolutely... Of course you had a choice to translate using easy constructions and vocabulary, but I don't have to help you with that... Forgive me when you discover that I had, in fact accumulated many "difficulties" ... It was simply to help you progress and it worked.I know that getting ready for correction has required quite a lot of research, time and reflection to give me the great work you've produced. Congratulations to all of you and thank you again!

This "correction" took me hooouuuurs to prepare and work on. I hope it will be useful to you.
EXERCICE 75
I ) Translate into English:
Why have sent/why send this letter back without reading it? You’ll never know what your former/ex friend wanted to tell you or what he wanted you to know.

Hardly had he pronounced/uttered that name than/when he realized he should never have done it in front of his father…
- Hardly + inversion du sujet + than/when. => “ Hardly had he pronounced that name when/than…?”
= He should never have done…”
- Attention ! Normalement, BEFORE indique un TEMPS alors que IN FRONT OF indique un LIEU.

He finds it very annoying to have to stand in a tremendous line to see the film he had been expecting for so long.
=> « I find it annoying…».
- agaçant = annoying/irritating.
- agacer = to annoy/irritate/get on someone’s nerves/tease (taquiner).
- attendre en file = “faire la queue” = stand in line/ be in the queue/ line up/queue/queue up/ wait in line
- L’antériorité de l’attente est exprimée par un past perfect. L’insistance sur la durée, elle, est traduite par l’emploi de la forme en –ing ;

The Pierces ‘ neighbour has stabbed his wife to death. Since then, the whole neighbourhood have been worried and will only be reassured when he is arrested.
- Ensuite …

The more explanations I gave him, the worse it was and the louder he shouted of anger.
- of anger/in anger/out of anger

I have such bad memories that no matter how often I’ll have to go to the dentist’s, the more frightened of that cursed seat I’ll get.
- de tels mauvais souvenirs = “exclamative”+ adjective + nom dénombrable pluriel => “such bad memories” (I should say "such horror stories"...)(Revoir la leçon 111002.)
- maudit = accursed - confounded - cursed - damned - bloody - damn - damnable...
- aussi souvent que + Proposition= : no matter how often …/ as often as (= 6e ! Bon … à la rigueur, 5e ou anglais des rues…) )
- as long as = aussi longtemps que = tant que
"dentist’s (pl. dentists) a place where a dentist sees patients; an appointment at the dentist’s; She couldn’t get treatment because she wasn’t registered with the dentist."

The bus we’re waiting for doesn’t go as far as Dartford tunnel. We’ll have to change at Bexley. Do you think we’ll have enough money to pay for the fares?
- to pay for something.

Patience ... Plus de place ... Je continue!

1) Avoir un rendez-vous à l'heure ! En avance, même ! Quel incroyable exploit et quelle satisfaction inattendue !
Being received on time for an appointment! Received early, even! What an extraordinary achievement and (what an) unexpected satisfaction!

It's hardly worth being mentioned… Don’t tell him, since he’s so touchy that he’ll resent it.
-It’s hardly worth mentioning/ It hardly deserves being mentioned…/ to be mentioned/ Attention à to be WORTH + ing= valoir la peine de ; ne pas confondre avec le comparatif de bad=> worse.
-Attention: faites bien la différence entre to say/to tell.

Why not say anything? I really wish he had spoken at the time and not chosen to file a suit later.
- Pourquoi + infinitif ? = why/why not + infinitif SANS TO.
- porter plainte = to press charges/register a complaint/lodge a complaint/make a complaint/
- exprimer un regret = I wish + past perfect = irréel du passé. Leçon 103970.

III ) Translate into French:
When she had reassured herself that her movements had not disturbed him she stepped, with infinite caution across the room. On a small table, a cineraria was growing in a pot. Nicky watched her now with his eyes wide open. The plant was evidently placed quite loosely in the pot, for taking it by the stalks she lifted it out; she put the banknotes in the bottom of the pot and replaced the plant. It was an excellent hiding-place. No one could have guessed that anything was concealed under that richly-flowering plant. She pressed the earth down with her fingers and then, very slowly, taking care not to make the smallest noise, crept across the room and slipped back into bed.
W. Somerset Maugham, Collected Short Stories, 1951.

(He was a man with blue eyes) Traduire "avec" est faire un anglicisme.
